Male youth squads

Season 2012/13 saw a change in staffing around the Male Youth Programs with a Talent Manager (Tim Nielsen) and Talent Coordinator (Andrew Zesers) appointed to oversee Talent and Programs from SAPSASA to the Emerging Redbacks.

Tim Nielsen oversees U19 and progression through Emerging Redbacks to Redbacks squads.  Andrew Zesers oversees the management of the U13/U14/U15/U17 squads.

There has also been a change in coaching structure where the SACA have appointed Coaches in the squads with the emphasis on all coaches not being involved in coaching Grade Cricket so they can devote exclusive time to our elite programs. Of the 5 head coaches 3 are former grade senior coaches, all coaches in the programs are Level 3 accredited.

The SACA High Performance squads for the initial 2013 winter pre-season blocks have been selected. This is well ahead of the previous season’s timelines and has enabled us to spend a little more time on selections.

Further selection opportunities for Regional areas will be conducted in partnership with the Les Favell Foundation throughout July to September where each of the squads may be added to.

Much time was spent through previous seasons keeping an eye on statistics and seeking recommendations from clubs and selected observers around all competitions conducted. The result was quite a large group of players seen at trials from February to May.

In the following pages you will see each of the squads and a brief summary of their programs and time line from here.

  • U/19’s    Shane McDermott (Head coach) and Trent Kelly (Assistant coach)
  • U/17’s    David Scholz (Head coach) and Andrew Zesers (Assistant coach)
  • U/15’s    Andrew Costello (Head coach)
  • U/14 Development Squad Jeremy Appleton and Andrew Zesers (Assistant coach)
  • SAPSASA   Derek Woodcock (Head coach), Sam Konnis (Manager)
